21 Day Fast, Day 1

January 1st. 2010 is the first day of my 21 day fast for this year.  my fast begins as the sun goes down on the first.  There is something that helps me by starting at sundown.  So Jan. 1st. at sundown to Jan 2nd. at Sundown is my first full day of the fast.

When I wake up in the morning I will be looking forward to starting my second day at sundown tomorrow.  I do not know why it helps me to do it that way but it really does.  When I am tempted to break my fast, i am usually almost finished with the fasting day or just beginning and it helps my resolve.

Many of my friends are doing the Daniel Fast.  On this fast, they can eat vegitables including beans and fruits and also nuts, berries etc.

I am starting my fast with very light fruit, one apple twice a day, after three days I am switching to a complete juice fast.  For me that means four or five ounces of Grape Juice mixed with a few ounces of Bottled water.

I will be following the same routine that I did in 2007 on my first 21 day fast.  I will come home from work, go strait to my “Man Room” in the back and ignore TV.  I will read good christian books, Study the Word of God and spend time in prayer and prayerful meditation.

The prayerful meditation, is what I call prayer and listening for the Holy Spirit to speak to my heart.

My hope for this fast is to learn to hear more of the Lord’s voice, follow more closely to his leading and spend time in His presence.  I want to do as one writer on prayer put it… “Practice the presence” of God in my everyday moments.

My prayer today.  Dear God, help me to hear your voice and learn your presence.  Lord, I want to practice your presence.  Lead me, guide me, let me hear your voice in my life.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
